M EgberongbePsychology and African American Studies

M Egberongbe is a senior at Emory studying Psychology and African American Studies. M spends most of their time researching as a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow on their project titled "Visibility, Erasure, and Freedom: Understanding the Effects of Cultural Influence on Transgender Identity Development and Identity Centrality Across the Black Diaspora," which aims to explore how various societal factors influence the perception and salience of transgender identity among Black individuals in the different cultural contexts of Lagos, Nigeria and Atlanta, Georgia. Beyond academics, M serves as President of the Black Student Alliance, Vice President of Programming for the Student Government Association, and Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement Chair for the Student Programming Council. They plan to pursue a PhD in Sociology to continue bridging scholarship, pedagogy, and community engagement in order to address questions of identity, belonging, and systemic justice.
