Luke Kendall Small Research Award

The Luke Kendall Small Research Award supports senior research in ILA, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Grants of up to $500 can be used to cover:

  • Travel expenses related to ILA research 
  • Production or other technical expenses (e.g. printing, display, computing services - but not the purchase of hardware such as tablets, laptops, video cameras, etc.)
  • Other integral aspects of ILA senior research that carry significant cost

The Luke Kendall Small Research Award is dedicated to the memory of former ILA student and IDS Teaching Assistant, Luke Kendall. Luke was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland in 1947, and died of AIDS in San Francisco in 1990. Prior to his studies at Emory University, Luke attended Memorial  University (St. Johns) and the University of British Columbia (Vancouver). His studies in the ILA focused on Religion and Psychology.

Students wishing to apply must submit the following:

  • Brief cover letter describing your senior research and demonstrating the direct relationship between the activities to be funded and the research question(s)
  • Budget
  • Letter or email of support from one faculty member with knowledge of or involvement in the activities to be funded
  • Evidence that you have also applied to other funding sources (e.g. SIRE, CCA, etc.)
