American Studies

The American Studies Minor (AMERSTMIN) allows students from other majors to supplement their study with interdisciplinary exploration of themes distinctive of the American context—both the US and the broader Americas. Borders, immigration, race, regionalism—these are some of the many themes that are touched in AMST and other courses that count toward this minor.

The AMST minor requires 24 credits: AMST 201 Introduction to American Studies, plus at least five other classes. Each student articulates a focus for the AMST minor in consultation with faculty advisers. AMST courses and courses from other departments can be included in a student’s course of study in the minor. The first step is to contact the director of undergraduate study for an appointment.
