One of Our Sidecar Courses Has Gone Viral

The Power of Black Self Love, co-taught by Dianne Stewart, associate professor of religion and African American studies and Donna Troka, associate director at the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence, was offered in fall 2016. The one-credit hour course focused on overlapping areas of two courses, Stewart’s Black Love and Troka’s Resisting Racism: From Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter. Students from both classes came together to discuss topics ranging from the power of social media to the Black Lives Matter movement. News organizations from across the country heard about the class and covered it. It appeared in more than twenty-seven outlets, including TeenVogue and the professors and students were interviewed on Georgia Public Broadcasting’s On Second Thought.
