Our majors are the only majors at Emory that allow students to structure their own program of study around their field(s) of interest.

To become an American Studies (AMST) or Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) major, you must complete the process outlined below:

This form allows you to declare a major or to remove an existing major from your record. Your online declaration will not be "approved" in the system until the steps 4-6 are completed (see below).

Your faculty co-advisors are two to four faculty to whom you are introduced by the DUS. They have expertise relevant to your interdisciplinary topic(s) of interest and can help you select courses for your proposal.

When you submit your Proposal online, you will need to attach a signed Faculty Co-Advisor Consent Form from each co-advisor (see page 9 of the Handbook).

Once your Proposal has been submitted online, you will receive a PDF copy via e-mail. A copy of your Proposal also goes to an ILA undergraduate committee for review and approval.
