Hugh McGlade is a senior at Emory, where he has majors in History and International Studies. He concentrates on Latin American studies, especially Brazil, and is a student of Portuguese. His honors thesis investigates a hunger alleviation program in Brazil during World War II, exploring questions of capitalism, politics, and cultural exchange. On campus, he is an honors fellow at the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry and chairs a judicial board in the Office of Student Conduct. Hugh is deliberatively noncommittal about his post-graduate plans, but he hopes that his twenties include some combination of graduate school, residence in Latin America, and private sector work.
